Jelena Jankovic is in the Quarterfinals after a win againt Jie Zheng in 2 sets, 6:4 7:5. Jelena, #4 seed, had tu put a bit more effort for the win than in her previuos match, still shows she is great form.
Jie, World #117 who eliminated Amelie Mouresmo in earlier Round, was equal match to Jelena in early part of the match, all until 9th game when Jelena made a break and eventually won the set 6:4.
After 4 games of second set and Jelena's 3:1 lead, it looked like Jelena is off to yet another easy win, though Jie made it 3:3 in games, 5:5. In the end, Jelena won second set 7:5 and match in 97 minutes.
Jelena will now play against Elena Dementieva, World #11. Jelena and Elena played against each other 5 times, Jelena won at Australian Open (hard) R128 in 2004, US Open (hard) Quarterfinals in 2006, Rome (clay) Quarterfinals in 2007, Elena won at New Heaven (hard) Quarterfinals in 2004 and Los Angeles (hard) Final in 2006.
Elena is a great form as well, she won Dubai (Tier I) some 3 weeks ago and skipped Indian Wells. She did not much problems against Sabine Lisicki (World #137) in previous round with the win in straigth sets, 6:3 6:2.
We wish Jelena to win and not to get over-exhausted, with Elena being the ultimate baseliner playing long points, and Jelena facing the toughest opponent up to now in Miami, it may easily be a 2+ hours match. The match is on schedule tomorrow, Wednesday April 2nd, not before 1pm local time (EDT, 19.00 Central European Time)
